Artemesia's Revenge
A new dance work in developement
by Belle Beasley and Skip Willcox
This project is a multidisciplinary exploration of the life and trial of Artemisia Gentileschi, intertwining movement, dance, voice, installation, and visual art to evoke the profound challenges faced by female artists then and now. To be staged in an immersive, non-traditional setting, this work draws from Renaissance archetypes and historical artefacts, placing them alongside modern expressions of resilience and defiance.
The installation and visual elements incorporate symbolic references to Renaissance art, grounding Artemisia’s story within her time while reimagining it for today. The audience is invited to step into an evocative world where historical voices echo, and the resilience of creative women across centuries converges. This project not only honours Artemisia’s legacy but also shines a light on the persistence of artistic women who continue to push boundaries and redefine their roles within the cultural landscape.

The Development
HER Productions is proud to be a successful recipient of the TINA 25th Anniversary Grant Award for Artemisia's Revenge. With the success and support of this grant, development work in 2025 has officially commenced. The creative teams have launched into the initial phase, diving deep into research, script development, and a series of dynamic performance workshops. This foundational work is focused on shaping, devising, and choreographing the first sketches of the project, building momentum for an extremely exciting creative journey ahead.
