HER LAUNCH EVENT // Vanya at the Vic // APRIL 2022

On 9 April 2022, we officially launched HER Productions. With the help of a very special and intimate VIP audience we celebrated its official launch with a presentation of scenes from Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, adapted by Annie Baker – which we are currently in rehearsals for, and which will open in May as our debut production!

With the support of the Victoria Theatre and Century, we made history for the company and already, even in our infancy, made dreams come true by hosting the event inside the old Victoria Theatre - the oldest theatre in NSW. In its magnificently decaying romantic aesthetic, the inspirations we were carrying from the New York production of Vanya on 42nd Street were so alive. In this historic building (currently awaiting funding for renovation) the richness lay in the setting itself. The themes os prevalent in Uncle Vanya – decay, the passage of time, and the haunting loss of history and youth – resonated deeply within those crumbling walls. To perform fragments of this story in a space that embodies its own impermanence was profoundly moving and exhilarating for us as performers.

The audience, warm and attentive, brought an energy that transformed the night into something deeply special. In that moment, surrounded by history and hope, it felt as though HER Productions had truly been born – the first green shoot from which the company would grow.
